Tips to Increase the Battery Life of a smartphone

Many of the smartphone comes with powerful features. The biggest disadvantages of smartphones is battery. Here are some simple tips to increase the battery life of smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy series smartphone, Nokia smartphones, Micromax Smartphones, Motorola smartphones. 
Tips to increase the battery life of the Smartphones:
Screen Brightness: Most of the smartphones comes with a light sensor which is used to automatically adjust brightness of the display. However it is highly advisable to decrease the screen brightness to the lowest possible manually to increase the battery life. The automatic settings constantly alters the brightness and that leads to higher battery consumption.Also keeping the screen timeout as short as possible to save more battery.
Wireless Connectivity: Functions such as EDGE,3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS are the most important part of a smartphone. However it is also consumes more battery.  You can disable the service when you are not using these service will boost the battery life. Even switching to 2G from 3G whenever possible will also help.
PUSH Notification: When PUSH notification service is enabled, phone constantly pings various services to check for updates. This will lead to Data connectivity or WiFi is being used constantly to check for updates. Some smartphones even play a sound and display a notification on the screen. The number of different notifications you leave on will have a direct impact on the phone's battery life.
Background Tasks: Normally, when we press the home button does not not exit the apps, it actually moves into the background.  This will help will help with quicker multitasking. However the problem here is that, the background apps consumes hardware resources(Except  iOS where the apps are completely suspended). Use Task manager to exit apps completely and give a boost to the battery life.
Haptic Feedback: Many touchscreen smartphones offer haptic feedback which is nothing but a slight vibration while typing, pressing an on-screen button or in some phones, every time the screen registers a touch. Check if you can turn this feature off or control when the vibration occurs. You can also choose to turn off the vibrate notification for calls/SMS when the ringer is on.

Type Rupee Symbol using Keyboard

As Rupee got a symbol, Microsoft added Rupee symbol font to the windows update. Once the drivers for Rupee symbol is installed, it can be used in MS Office applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power point or any Windows application. Rupee Symbol can be typed using the keyboard, even if it is not printed in the keyboard. The Rupee symbol can be typed in Dell Keyboards, Logitech Keyboards or any keyboards.
Below is the step to Download and Install the Rupee Symbol:
  • Download the free Rupee symbol driver update from Microsoft Driver update Page from Here.
  • Select the the version of your operating system such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 and the 32bit version or 64 bit version.
  • Install the update and restart the PC
  • Go to Control panel. 
  • Select Clock, Language, and Region, and then click Change keyboards or other input methods
  • On the Region and Language screen, click Change keyboard on the Keyboards and Languages tab
  • On the Text Services and Input Languages screen, click Add
  • On the Add Input Language screen select English (India), and then select the India keyboard check box
  • Restart the system to use the Rupee symbol
  • Keyboard shortcut to use Rupee symbol is Ctrl+Shift+4($) or Ctrl+Alt+4($). This will type rupee Symbol ₹.
Note: Some times the Keyboard changes to other than Keyboard India. To set back Keyboard India go to keyboard symbol in the right bottom screen and set the desired keyboard. 
Once the Rupee symbol got installed, In MS excel, currency format shows the Rupee symbol so that you can use Rupee symbol in Excel for Currency calculations.

Setting up iPhone Tethering

iPhone tethering is nothing but using iPhone as a wireless modem to provide internet access to a WiFi enabled laptop or other WiFi enabled devices such as iPad or iPod touch.  iPhone tethering is enabled in iPhone 3GS or higher model which runs on iOS 4 or higher version of OS with tethering supported data plan. Normally tethering requires monthly data plan subscription along with standard phone contract.  Devices can be connected to iPhone while in tethering mode in 3 ways namely USB,WiFi or Bluetooth.

Tethering of iPhone:
  • First step is to setting up personnel hotspot. Tap "Settings" icon in the home screen.  Select "General" and then tap "Network"
  • In the Network setup screen, choose "Set up personnel Hotspot". This will be available when you are configuring for the first time. Later on it will display only as "Personnel Hotspot".
  • In the Personnal Hotspot menu, slide the Personnal Hotspot Slider to "On". For changing the password, tap on to password field and edit it on the next screen.  Any one want to connect to this hotspot needs to enter this password to gain the access.
  • Default mode of connection to your personnel Hotspot is USB. However as soon you turn on personnel hotspot, you will see a pop up which asks for Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth to allow for wireless connection. Tap Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth button to enable wireless tethering.
  • You are done with setting up your own Personnel Hotspot. Now other device can connect to it.

Note:
  • When other devices are using your Hotspot connection, you will see a Blue notification at the top of the screen or on the lock screen which indicates personnel hotspot is active. It also shows the number of devices using the connection.
  • When you want to enable Personnel hotspot, Tap on to settings ans select Personnel Hotspot menu just under Aeroplan mode and WiFi .

Connecting Two laptops without a router

Windows 7 and Windows Vista comes with a feature to set up ad hoc wireless network connection. This feature enables to connect your computer with another computer or laptop without the need of a router. Here is quick guide to create network between two computers without the need of a router.

Procedure to Connect two Computer wireless way:
Step1: From Start menu go to Windows control panel.  Select  "Network and Internet" Option
Step2: In Network and Internet Window click on "Network and Sharing Center"
Step3: Click on "Setup a new connection or Network" in the Network and Sharing center window.
Step4:  Setup a new connection or Network will open a new Dialog box. Select "Set up a Wireless Ad Hoc(Computer-To- Computer) network option from the list and Click "Next".
Step5:Click Next again and it will prompt you enter the name to the network and the security settings.
Step6: Ensure you are selecting strong password to secure your network connection. Choose Security type you want. By default security type will be WPA2-Personal. If you need any help on selecting Security type, help file the Click on "Help me Choose".Security key or the password is case sensitive and it should be 8-63 alpha numeric characters.``
Step7:Select Next to finish creating  ad hoc network. A confirmation page  page shows the ad hoc network settings. Now your network is ready to use.
Step8: In the Network and Sharing Center you can decide on what to share with the network.
Step9: For making other system to use your computer Internet,  click on "View Status next to the connection you want to share.  Click on properties button which is available under Activity. Click on Sharing tab and enable the checkbox  which says "Allow other Network Computers To Connect Through This computer's Internet Connection". Under Home Networking Connection select "Wireless network Connection" and Click on OK.
Step10. You will find the network name in the available connection list of other system which has WiFi support. Select the network you have just create and enter the password to access the internet.
Step11: You are done with sharing your network with other computer.

1. Multi tasking gestures:  With iOS 5, one can navigate and manage the iPad with multi touch gestures. To enable this go to Setting--> General.  Turn on Multi touch gestures which is placed at the bottom.  Below are the available navigation gestures.

  • While using any apps, pinching the screen with four or five fingers will take you to the home screen.
  • Swipe up with four or five finger will show the multitasking bar. Regular way of opening the multi tasking bar is by double clicking on home button.
  • Using four or five fingers, swiping left or right will enable you navigate only open apps instead of switching with multi tasking bar.
2. Enabling Text Shortcuts in iOS5: iPad comes with Auto text which helps to compose a email or create message with text shortcuts. To enable this feature go to Settings->Keyboard. Under Keyboard option select shortcuts. There is a default shortcut named "On my way!". However you can create your own shortcut by tapping "Add new shortcut". Whenever you use the abbreviation shortcuts, iOS will expand it to  full text. 

3. Word Definitions: When ever you are browsing  or reading some thing and find a word which you might not be knowing then you can use inbuilt dictionary of iOS5.  To use this feature, long press on the word you want to know and select Define. A pop up comes with the exact meaning and the definition.

Tips and Tricks for Samsung Galaxy S2:
Adding shortcuts in Touchwiz user interface of Galaxy S2: In the home screen, press the screen in the blank space where it is free from icons.  The phone will pop up a menu which consist of lot of options which includes shortcut options.  Using the shortcut option you can set shortcut for your favorite app.
Factory Reset of Samsung Galaxy S2: There are three ways to reset Samsung Galaxy S2 to factory defaults. First one through dialer, second one through settings and the final one by Recovery mode. Let us see one by one.
Factory reset through Dialer:  In dialer enter 2767*3855# and dial. Your phone will reset to factory defaults.
Factory Reset through setting: Go to settings from Menu, and select Privacy, Factory data reset.
Factory reset through Recovery mode: Power off the phone, press and hold Vol Up + Home + Power. Use the Vol keys to navigate the menus and Home to action.
Adding contacts to Home screen:  Hold down on any home screen blank space, select shortcuts from options, then you chose contacts then you choose a contact to stick them on the home screen, or you can choose direct message/dial and then a contact to do the same with that feature. 
Fixing Home screen and apps disappear on start up: Some users are reported that, by going to settings-> accounts->and Sync. Uncheck both background sync and auto sync will solve this issue.  
Sort videos by list : Access the movie through your file explorer instead of the gallery, that way you can see the name of the movie on the file.
Increasing call volume:  When max volume is set, it is actually sets default setting of 87 out of 100 . For changing default setting please follow below steps.
  • call this number *#*#197328640#*#*
  • This will open the service mode menu.
  • choose option [5] AUDIO
  • choose option [1] (VOICE CALL)
  • choose option [1] HANDSET
  • choose option [1] Volume
  • choose option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
  • choose option [5] 5_lvl : 87
  • press the menu button (left side)
  • choose Key Input
  • enter a value between 0 and 100, I choose 100 the loudest setting.
  • press ok
  • now press the menu button and select back this should save (don't use the right side back key you normally use to navigate the phone or you will quit out of the settings) keep hitting the menu and back until you leave the service mode menu.
  • You will also note you can change volume settings for other things like bluetooth, head sets, video call etc.
Note: This is not permanent. When phone get restarted, settings resets back to the default levels .

 Other miscellaneous tips on Samsung Galaxy S2
  • Pinch on home screen to get homescreens overview, from there you can either skip to a particular screenshot or bin ones you don't need, that way you will have less homescreen dot markers.  
  • In Applications menu, Press Menu key and then edit.Here you can move the Phone Contacts and Messaging widgets from the bottom of the screen into the applications area and replace them with other applications, or just remove them altogether to leave just the blue applications widget for every home screen.
  • If you deleting all the info from the twlauncher app, then your apps drawer will sort automatically (once) however your homescreen layout will revert to default.
  • Long press on the menu key will bring up the search function. 
  • Press the home key and Power button together to take a screen shot. The screen shot will be saved on gallery.
  • Double press the home button while the screen is not locked will auto open voice commands. For the  first time setup go to Apps and voice commands and do the tutorial and to change/setup voice commands go to settings-voice input and output.
  • If you turn off Auto brightness in Settings --> Display, then long pressing the notifications area and sliding left and right will increase/decrease the screen brightness.
  • If you are having trouble with the initial pairing of your SGSII to a bluetooth device, restart the SGSII and try again (this bug also present on SGSI with same fix).
  • If you don't like the screen colour temperature you can change it (system-wide) in Settings --> Display --> Background effect. Movie mode makes things more drab, dynamic mode tends to pump up the colours a lot (will help with sunlight legibility).
  • There is more than one speech-synthesis engine in the phone, by default it will be set in Voice Input and output to Pico TTS, but Samsung TTS is much more pleasant sounding (less robotic). Samsung TTS removes spoken street names in Google Navigation though.
  • In the browser type about:useragent into the address bar, hit enter, it will come up with a list of user agents.Choose desktop to have the browser stop defaulting to mobile versions of websites.
  • On both the homescreen and the apps menu you will see a row of dots indicating which page you are on. hold the dot and scroll left or right. The pages will quickly scroll until you see the page you want.
  • If you hit edit on the home screen you can edit the number of screens availble, to a max of seven screens.
  • You can rearrange your applications by pressing edit in the applications screen, then moving them. Also folders can be made there too.
  • Long hold on Widget will expand the widgets.

Tethering of Android Devices

Android Froyo and later versions support Tethering of the devices. Tethering is nothing but using your cellphone or internet enabled mobile device as a modem for another device such as PC, Notebook or PDA.  Tethering can be done with most of the Android smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy note etc.

Steps to use USB tethering: Sharing the data connection of mobile devices through USB
If you are using Windows 7 or recent versions of linux such as Ubuntu there is no need to install any thing on your PC to do tethering. However if you are using Windows XP or older versions of Linux then you need to prepare your system to do tethering. First let us start with tethering with Windows XP.
  1. Download the configuration file tetherxp.inf to your Windows XP PC from here
  2. Connect your Android smartphone to PC through USB cable.
  3. On Android phone, go to Home->Menu->settings.
  4. Open Wireless&network then select Tethering & Portable hotspot 
  5. Check USB tethering
  6. In Windows XP PC new hardware Wizard opens as soon as you enable USB tethering on your cellphone. Chose 'No, not at this time' and Click 'Next
  7. Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
  8. Using Browse option select the file tetherxp.inf which you have downloaded in step1.
  9. After Windows XP finishes installing the software for Android USB Ethernet/RNDIS, click Finish.
  10. Now you can use data connection of your smartphone or mobile device from you Windows XP device.
For Windows 7 or equivalent OS follow only step 2 to step 5 as there is no need to configure or install drivers.

Bluetooth Tethering:
Steps to sharing data connection of mobile device to PC through Bluetooth.
  • Pair your Phone with your computer.
  • Configure your computer to obtain its network connection via Bluetooth. 
  • On your cellphone Open the Settings from Menu. 
  • Open Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  • Check Bluetooth tethering.
Using Android Smartphone as WiFi Hotspot:
  • On phone. go to Menu-> Settings
  • Select Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  • Check Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot to stop sharing your data connection via Wi-Fi.
Steps to Follow to secure mobile WiFi Hotspot:
  • Open the Settings application.
  • Touch Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  • Ensure Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is checked.
  • Touch Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings.
  • Touch Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • In the configuration, you can change SSID, configure the network with Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) security, with a preshared key (PSK).

Gingerbread Firmware Upgrade for Samsung Galaxy Ace

Samsung  officially released Gingrebread OS upgrade for Samsung Galaxy Ace users. The up gradation of firmware increases phones performances such as battery life and overall performance of the mobile improves.

Steps to be followed to upgrade Samsung Galaxy Ace firmware to Gingerbread:

  • Download the latest version of  Samsung Kies(Ver. 2.1.0.11095_121_6) from Samsung Downloads
  • Install the Kies to your PC
  • Back up all your data such as contacts, messages and media files to be in safer side.
  • Ensure that battery is fully charged
  • Connect the mobile to PC through USB(Even though wireless sync in supported in Latest version of  Kies, connecting through USB is recommended for Firmware upgrade)
  • Samsung Kies automatically pops up which says there is a Firmware upgrade.
  • Click on Update to download and install the updates
  • Ensure while downloading and installation is in process, do not use the phone or disconnect the phone from PC.
  • Depending on the Internet speed the download time will vary. However it take approximately 20-30 mins with average speed.
  • Once installation is completed,device will restart. Disconnect the cable and reconnect. The phone firmware is automatically upgraded to Gingerbread OS.
  • Enjoy the new Android Gingerbread in your Samsung Galaxy Ace phone.
Note
  • Upgrading firmware will not void warranty as it is a official upgrade from Samsung.
  • Memory used after up gradation is almost equal to earlier. Only slight increase in memory usage.
  • While connecting the phone, if Kies do not show pop up on Firmware upgrade, then open Kies and click on your model. On the right side, you will get a option to download the update.

Micromax A70 USB Driver and Connecting as Modem to PC

 The detailed review on A70 is available in my older post called Micromax A70 review. Connecting A70 as modem to PC to connect to internet is not a tough task. However it needs little tweaking. Let us start with downloading the Micromax PC suite which is USB driver.Follow the below steps to use Micromax A70 as a modem to PC.
Steps for Micromax A70 Tethering:
  • First step is to download the USB driver for your A70. The free version of A70 USB driver is available here.
  • Unzip the rar files of Micromax USB driver to a folder.
  • Open and run USBDriver file.
  • Once driver is installed successfully you will get success message.
  • Than go back to the folder Phone suite.
  • Open the folder there is a file Phone suite MFC application run that
    file.
  • Now you'll find the Micromax phone suite window.
  • Connect the handset on comport mode and found new hardware wizard
    will occur on your screen wait a while till its  completes.
  • Now check on the right corner of the Micromax window it indicates
    that phone is connected or disconnected.
  • If it shows connected that means its phone is connected with the Phone suite but if shows disconnected check comport on phone suite from Settings>General>com port that should be same as shown on your
    device manager. (Or that should be the maximum number com port) =20
  • Then it will show connected in right corner of Micromax Phone suite
    window.
  • Then on phone suite click on Settings>Create Connection.
  • Click on New/Modify button now a sub window will open.
  • Enter the fields according to the operators like                                                                             Name:  Aircel
    APN:   aircelgprs
    Number*99#
    user name: blank
    password: blank                                                                                                                           Name:  airtel
    APN:  airtelgprs.com
    Number *99#
    user name: blank
    Password : blank
  • Then click on "New" button and after that "Create" button now
    installing modem will appear(if there is a error for window logo testing
    while installation click on continue anyway)
  • Now you get the message "Connection Created Successfully " click on
    OK.
  • Now Click on Dial Up you'll get your connection name.
  • Select the Sim(sim1 or sim2) for which you have created the connection.
  • Now click on Dial Up button.
  • Then internet will be connected on your PC.
Connecting Micromax A70 with PC by data cable.
  • Open Main Menu
  • Select Setting
  • Wireless and Network
  • Tethering & Portable hotspot
  • Select USB Tethering.
Note: These were the instructions given by Micromax support people to connect A70 to internet from PC. My friend was successfully connected his mobile to PC. So same instructions i have given here. Request your feedback on the same.

LG PC Suite-LG mobile Support Tool Free Download

LG Mobile Support Tool(LMST) is a PC suite from LG mobiles. This LG PC suite enables you to connect your phone to PC and using LG mobiles such as LG Optimus as modem to connect to internet from PC.

System requirement for  LG Mobile support tool PC suite:
  •     1GHz or higher Pentium-compatible processor
  •     At least 256 MB of RAM (memory)
  •     Windows 2000 (SP4 or later) or Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7
  •     Administration rights on the PC for software installation

  • Download LG Mobile support tool to PC
  • Minimum 256MB of RAM
  • OS supported: Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 7 
  • Internet connection to get latest updates and firmware upgrades. This is needed for downloading latest PC suites from LG.

PC suite is compatible with most of LG mobiles which has PC sync option.

Enabling 3G calls in Samsung Mobiles

  Enabling 3G on Samsung mobiles is very easy. Let us see how to enable 3G and then we will see on how to enable video call.

  • Before starting ensure your sim is 3G activated. If your sim is not activated for 3G then call your service provider and activate 3G service.
  • Then download the 3G settings from your service provider to your mobile.
  • In your Samsung phone go to Settings.
  • In Settings Select "Wireless and Networks".
  • Select mobile Network in Wireless and Network page
  • Select Active point Names.
  • If you have downloaded 3G settings successfully, you will find your service provider settings in Active points Name.
  • Go to "Mobile network settings" page
  • Enable Use packet data.
  • Restart your phone. Now your phone is 3G enable.
  • Now dial video call button to do video calls on your phone.

Reverse tethering- Using Windows as WiFi hotspot

  The windows 7 laptop with WiFi can be used as WiFi hotspot connect your smartphone to internet. This will be very useful if you have purchased new mobile and not yet subscribed to data plan. This method is working for all the smartphones which is WiFi enables such as Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Fit, Galaxy pop, LG optimus, Dell XCD 35 etc.

Steps to make Windows laptop or PC as WiFi hotspot (Reverse tethering):

  • Download the  software from notify users.
  • Install the software
  • Double click on shortcut of notify users application.
  • Open the settings.
  • Fill up the space with the information such as 
  • WiFi Name: The name used to identify the WiFi network from your phone or any WiFi enabled device
  • Password:The password of WiFi network you want to set for authorization.
  • Internet: The internet you are using for Connecting
  • WiFi hotspot is ready.

Importing Contacts to Android phone

 When you are upgrading the phone you might be thinking on how to import contacts to your new Android phone. There are several ways to do this. However easiest way is to sync with gmail and importing to your mobile. So below is the steps to import contacts into Android phones such as Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy pop, Samsung Galaxy fit, Samsung galaxy ace, Dell XCD35, LG optimus.

Steps to import contacts into Android phone:

  • Export your contacts from your old phone in csv format. This can be easily done  in PC suite of your phone.
  • Import your contacts in csv format to gmail contacts.
  • Connect your phone to internet and go to gmail and sign in to your account from your android device.
  • In gmail contacts, go to settings-> Display options->Select only contacts with phones then in google --> Manually select all groups and then synchronize.
  • Use your email apps to setup your office or school emails. Use exchange settings or imap to ensure read status of your mails are sync with your phone.
  • Install Gtask apps to synchronize your task with google tasks.
Importing contacts from Facebook or twitter:

  • Install the facebook and twitter apps to your phone.
  • In apps select to import the contacts. This will import pictures and other address data automatically into your phone.
  • Select the interval for synchronizing to 4 hours to avoid draining your Android device battery.
  • Facebook sync settings are available in Contacts-->Settings--> Accounts.
This will be useful if you are having duplicates in your contacts and if your looking to remove duplicates. Sync and backup will help when you lose contacts in any way. So always backup your contacts.

This post will demonstrate on how to install application on SD card of Android smartphone without rooting the phone.  This method is one of the safest way to do as this method does not contains any rooting. This method of installing Apps on SD card without rooting works for most of the Android smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy Ace,Samsung Galaxy Fit,Samsung Galaxy pop, Samsung Galaxy S2, LG optimus 2X, Dell XCD 35 and most of the android devices which uses Android Froyo or above.
For installing apps on SD card of android device we need to have latest Android SDK on a computer which  we use to install apps on smartphone. So let us start with installing Android SDK.

Downloading and Installing  latest Android SDK on PC:

  • First download the latest Android SDK from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html .
  • Extract the package in your desired folder of PC.
  • Run SDK manager.exe.
  • New windows command prompt pops us. But nothing to do with that. Hence close that command prompt.
  • In SDK and AVD manager explorer screen under available packages, select only USB driver for windows option and xxx.revision 5 .
  • Click on  install selected packages.
Steps to install Apps on SD card:
  • Enable USB debugging on Android phone. Go to Settings--> Applications-->Development--> USB debugging.
  • Now connect your phone to PC through USB cable. Do not open PC suite of your phone such as Samsung kies.Do not mount the device. Just connect your phone to PC.
  • Windows OS will prompt for new driver install.Choose to install them from the android-sdk-windows/extras/google/usb_driver folder.
  • Run the command prompt as administrator.
  • Type the code given below one by one and end each line add ">"(Without qoutes
           "cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools"  (" Here i have given C: drive path which consist android         sdk. If you have installed on other path make the changes on path)
           "adb devices"
            "adb shell"
            "pm setInstallLocation 2"  
          Use the these codes without quotes and end each line by >
  • Close all the open windows and disconnect the phone from PC.
  • Restart the phone.
  • Now your phone is ready to install apps on SD card.
Note: 
  • Even though apps are getting installed on SD card, each app store some .odex on phone memory to speed up phone booting. So more the apps you install, the phone memory becomes lesser.
  • This method only enables SD card installation of Apps and does not move any apps.

Connecting Samsung mobiles to Internet through PC Studio

NPS or Samsung new PC studio is used to synchronize, back up and data transfer between Samsung mobile and PC. This New Samsung PC studio can be used for using Samsung mobile to connect to the internet using mobile as a modem. Below is the step by step guide to use mobile as a modem to connect to internet from PC. The below mentioned steps helps in connecting Samsung mobiles such as Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy pop, Samsung Galaxy fit, Samsung Galaxy infuse and other samsung mobiles which supports data to internet.

Starting with download Samsung PC studio if you do not have one already. You can download Samsung PC studio (NPS) from Samsung Galaxy PC Studio download. Now follow the below steps.

Samsung PC Studio Setup

  • Connect your Samsung Mobile to PC through USB cable.
  • As soon as computer detects your phone, you will get popup. Select PC studio and open.
  • In PC studio we need to activate Samsung NPS internet Connector for connecting to Internet. Activation step is given in following steps.
  • In PC studio select Widget settings.
  • In Widget settings, under Add/Delete Function widget, select add Internet connector.
Configuration of PC studio to Connect to Internet:
  • Open Internet connector from widgets section.
  • In Internet connector select menu and then connection settings.
  • Enter your Connection  name, Select your country name, Network provider( You can select other if your network provider is not listed), APN name of your network provider, Phone number with your country code, User id which your network provide access to internet, Password and click on add.
  • Now click on Ok and close Internet connection settings.
  • To connect to internet click on connect and give yes to pop up menu. In few minute you will get connected to internet.

    Samsung Galaxy S 4G Tips and Tricks

    New Keyboard Activation for Samsung Galaxy S4G:

    • Tap the application launcher.
    • Scroll over to Tap settings.
    • In setting select Language and Keyboard settings.
    • If any custom keyboards installed, there will be a option to toggle it on and off with Check box.
    • Enable the required keyboard.
    • Tap on to Input method.
    • Select the name of the keyboard you want to activate and Tap on it.
    Downloading and Reinstalling lost applications in Galaxy S4G: This will be useful when you have accidentally deleted an applications from your phone and you need it back.
    • Navigate to android market application in your phone and launch the market.
    • Press menu and go to download and select it.
    • Scroll down the list to find your application. The purchased applications will show you as Purchased right next to them.
    • Once you got your application, re download the application and install it.

    Connecting Android Smart phone as a modem

     Here is a simple procedure to connect your Android based smart phones to PC. This will be useful for Connecting Samsung galaxy series phones to PC or laptop.  Below are the steps to follow for connecting your samsung android phones to laptop or desktop. I think it will give answer to your questions like how to connect Samsung galaxy to pc? or how to connect Samsung pop to pc? etc

    1. Install the TetherBot application on your phone -

    2. Install the Android SDK on your PC. Also install the device driver bundled with the SDK.

    3. Now go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB Debugging on your phone.

    4. Connect the phone to your PC; start the TetherBot application and press the Start Socks button.

    5. On your PC, go to Command Prompt (Run > CMD) and navigate to the androidsdktools directory.

    6. Type this command and execute it
    adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080

    This starts a SOCKS proxy on Port 1080 using which you can connect to the internet.

    You can now use this proxy to access the internet using any browser which allows you to set up a SOCKS proxy like Opera or Firefox.

    Windows Update Error

    Windows Update Error  0*80070420:

    If you are facing problem of Windows XP update error 0*80070420 then follow the steps mentioned below.
    • Check whether you have installed Windows Installer 3.1 Installed. 
    • You can search whether it is installed by visiting control panal-->Add/Remove programs. If it is installed uninstall it and reboot the system. If not go to next step.
    • Install Windows Installer 3.1. You can install this by clicking windows update facility of Windows or visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&displaylang=eng. Reboot the system
    • Now you will be able to do the Windows Update.

    Boot-loader reset

    Removing Ubuntu/Linux or Higher verion of Windows and continue working with Windows XP

    Boot-loader Reinstallation for Windows XP :

    Reset Bootloader:

    If you have Ubuntu/Linux  and Windows XP in dual boot and get rid of Ubuntu/Linux, its boot loader is an obstacle. To get rid of this problem follow below mentiones steps.
    • First set your first boot device as your CD/DVD drive and insert Windows XP CD.
    • Press any key when it tells you to do during the boot up.
    • Press [R]  to enter into Recovery Console.
    • Confirm the copy of Windows installed by entering the number.
    • Enter the Administrator password at the prompt.
    • On the prompt, type fixmbr and then type fixboot.
    • Reboot the system.
    Now you are able to boot into Windows XP. This is very useful when you work with dual boot with XP and Windows Vista or Windows XP with Windows 7 or Windows XP with Ubuntu or any Linux. This method will reset the master boot record and you will get the Windows XP boot-loader back

    Note: Ensure you have back up of all your critical information. If you make a small mistake which can lead to data loss.
